Artist's Statement

I like to use the expression, “I’m painting to find out,” because each new work is an exploration to better understand color, composition, paint application and expression. Sometimes a struggle but always an adventure, I love the artistic process and how I’ve come to understand that all the elements in my life are tied together in the pursuit of “Living in Balance”.

Everything I do correlates to my search for understanding strength and balance.  Centering a piece of clay on the potter’s wheel relates to drawing from the model and finding the weight and dynamics of a pose.  In my Pilate’s class, I feel in my own body the same dynamics that I observe in the model.  The clay, the drawing, and my body all become one.  When I paint in my studio or work behind the camera lens, I search for these same elements in my compositions.  My aim is to integrate all parts of my life together.
